In the midst of a sudden and heartbreaking death of a loved one, as a family we were also faced with shocking expenses incurred for end-of-life care. The grant from the Bishop’s Company Fund helped relieve some of that financial stress. But more importantly, it also helped us to feel that our loss was seen and recognized by the church and the Diocese, and that we were not alone. I am grateful for the dignified and compassionate way in which the request was received and the money disbursed. In this sad chapter for us a family, we were truly blessed by the kindness and generosity of the Diocesan leadership, the Bishop’s Company Fund, and its donors. A heartfelt thank you to all.

Anglicans Care
Founded on the values of faith, community and compassion, The Bishop’s Company brings to life our commitment to walk with each other in Christ. It supports programs and initiatives that strengthen the Anglican community in the Diocese of Toronto, including support for the Bishops’ ministries, the provision of emergency care for clergy in need, and bursaries for religious education.
History
“The Bishop’s Men of the Anglican Diocese of Toronto” was founded in 1960 and soon after raised the first funds for Bishop Fred Wilkinson to help clergy and their families in times of need.
Since then, The Bishop’s Company – the name was changed in the later ‘80s – has grown steadily throughout the Diocese of Toronto and has inspired similar groups across Canada. From the beginning, the Company has held an annual dinner to raise funds and awareness of the wonderful work carried out by the Diocese of Toronto.
The Fund
The Bishop’s Company Fund provides a pool of funds that strengthen the Anglican community in the Diocese of Toronto. In addition to providing support to clergy who are in need, the fund administers the W.R. Kay Buraries, awarded each year to men and women completing religious studies leading to ordination. In addition, the Eileen and George Carey Bursary and the Terence and A.J. Finlay Bursary are awarded to Anglicans pursuing postgraduate theological studies.

With favourable tax deductibility, gifts of stock have also become an attractive way to make a significant contribution. Please prayerfully consider making a gift to The Bishop’s Company.
